Bring your favorite piece of technology and come learn about the exciting possibilities that can occur when schools engage in a BYOD environment! Participants will be introduced to research that supports bring your own device policies and will actively participate in instructional strategies using various technologies. There will also be time in this session devoted to Q&A surrounding best practices and advice from schools already implementing a BYOD policy.
Digital literacy today means much more than searching the Internet and using Microsoft Office. To be digitally literate, teachers as well as students need to be able to create and share online a variety of different multimedia products. These media products can be “mapped” to your curriculum and to the Oklahoma Academic Standards / Common Core State Standards. Interactive Writing, Narrated Art, 5 Photo Stories, Narrated Slideshows, Screencasts, Quick Edit Videos, and eBooks are a few of the media products learners should be able to create and safely share online. In this session, we’ll view different examples of student media products and learn about tools and strategies for helping teachers become digitally literate as “media mappers” using iPads. We’ll also explore how librarians and instructional coaches can use the “Mapping Media to the Curriculum” website as a roadmap to help teachers and students create media products as assignments for class and as artifacts in digital portfolios. Over the past 11 years, Bridge Creek Elementary (BCES) has taken the technology lead in the Bridge Creek School District. From the first OETT/OKACTS grant in 2003 to present, SKIE Award recipients Annette Dake and Rachell Skeen have been technology leaders in the district. Participants will explore iMotionHD and other iPad apps to create and share their own claymation/stop motion story. In this session participants will learn how to utilize Oklahoma EOI/OCCT testing data in a meaningful way to inform classroom instruction. Participants will learn a strategy to look at Oklahoma science state summary test results along with test item specifications to provide more focused standards based classroom instruction. Mind Your Own Budget provides a fun way for students, grades 7-12, to build financial literacy. In the game, students encounter tasks such as budgeting, paying bills, managing accounts and using financial instruments. MYOB is compliant with “Personal Financial Literacy Passport” standards.

Teachers will examine the role of creating and using models to address process and content objectives in an authentic manner. We will explore in-depth what constitutes a model and a cross-curricular topic will be used to illustrate modeling strategies.

Encouraging college, career and citizenship ready skills means allowing students to think, create and share their learning in innovative ways. Bulldog Bookstop is a collaborative project that allows students to capitalize on their (digital) literacy (and numeracy) skills while making a difference for their community. Students at Madison planned and implemented a book sale using their gently used books. Book talks and blogging became avenues for integrating the learning objectives and standards with iPods, Chromebooks, and creativity. Come see what we are doing to actively weave standards, curriculum and technology to create compassionate kids who are empowered to make a difference in their community. If you are interested in using robots to teach STEM concepts to your 3-5th grade students this is the session for you.Participants will learn about an elementary level educational robotics program being developed by the KISS Institute for Practical Robots being piloted in Oklahoma. Topics covered include; how to get involved and fund the program, robotic equipment, software, alignment to standards and classroom implementation strategies.
How can paired texts work as an entry point for social studies literacy in the Elementary/Middle School classroom? In this engaging session, participants will experience model lessons based on paired texts and discuss ways in which paired texts can connect Social Studies and English Language Arts. A suggested bibliography will be provided as well as selections from Appendix B of the Common Core Standards.

Participants will dialogue with teacher leaders who are currently engaged in a semester long "Training of Trainers" model to facilitate technology integration among teachers within a district composed of 24 individual school sites. This session offers opportunities to discuss insights these teacher leaders have to offer regarding the design and implementation of similar models for developing capacity and sustainability for ongoing support of technology integration to meet student learning needs.
